'NOW' is a GIFT .....That's why it's called THE PRESENT

Today, Jan 8th 2009, a dear uncle was laid to rest. He was a man of integrity and kindness, and a great encouragement to all around.
Somehow I had lost touch with him over the last number of years, and as I reflected on the reasons, It struck me how quickly time flies by!
A week ago I posted a little note elsewhere, and it's probably worth repeating.
So before any more pond and water garden stuff, here it is.

Sheepishly I dust off the buttons on my keyboard. It's been sometime now since my last post. You need to know that to my New Years R list I've added a promise to post every week. Hmmmmm, we will try....
I do find myself in exactly the same position as last year this time..... it's super cold and miserable outside, and I've got this insatiable desire to get gardening and pondscaping. Perhaps you feel the same?
Well, lets dream instead.
About The smell of fresh cut grass,
About butterfly topped flowers and scented lilacs, breaking out in praise.
About singing birds and busy bugs, warm spring breezes and lazy summer days.

But hold on. These things are months away!
Wake up! Wake up!
For the last few days Carolyn Arends song, 'Seize the Day' Has been playing in my mind. Youtube the song, it's worth a listen.

" Seize the day..... cause life slips away like hour glass sand."
"You can do what you will with the days you've been given,
I'm trying to spend mine on the business of living."

This song is so true! How often don't we dream only about the future, ignoring, or not properly focusing on what's happening in the present?!

So I ask myself, what IS happening now???

Well, my daughter is clicking away on her laptop, as she listens to an Irish Christmas Carol. (It's January) My son sits nearby, whistling the happy tune.
I look outside and see Cardinals, Mourning Doves and Blue jays feasting under the feeder.
The bright morning sun is making diamonds in the crisp white snow, bracketed with long winter shadows.

This is what's happening now.And yet much more, for in all this I see my family happy, thankful and content.
Seize the day friend.
For truly it is so, as Carolyn Arends has written;
".....life slips away like hour glass sand."

Till later, Charlie Storm
